A beautifully restored farmhouse in the countryside near the city of Montalcino will be your home..From here you can enjoy the region’s rich artistic, cultural and culinary heritage. Each season provides different opportunities for exploration.

_______

Autumn is olive picking season. Golden green “new” oil flows steadily from the presses. Porcini mushrooms are in abundance throughout the countryside. Chestnuts and wild boar take center stage on autumn menus

Spring in central Italy is all about new life. Lamb, fava beans, artichokes, and wild asparagus are served everywhere as ochre-colored palazzi disappear under the blooming wisteria.

Summer is a time for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of sunflower covered hills, spectacular landscapes And the bounty of italian summer gardens….. Pomodori, Italy’s renowned tomatoes are mouth wateringly sweet. Afternoons spent dreaming poolside after a cooling swim enrich the soul and soothe the body.

Join me as we explore the culinary pleasures of this region where the people are still tied to the land and to its traditions. Our program includes day trips to nearby towns where we will explore their food and art treasures. The cooking classes concentrate on simple rustic cuisine that can easily fit into hectic schedules back home. You will also have time to relax, if you wish, and enjoy the idyllic quiet this setting provides. For those who enjoy shopping we will provide transportation to such fun places as a the Gucci and Prada outlet stores. Groups are very small; usually no more than six to 8 people, so attention is personal and undivided. And, our knowledge of the area and the language will allow you to experience Italy in a uniquely intimate manner."

WHAT WE DO
Evan will teach the cooking classes in a beautifully restored farmhouse just outside of the charming hill town of Montalcino. During our week together there will be a minimum of 5 cooking classes featuring the local produce and wines. The cooking classes concentrate on simple rustic cuisine that can easily fit into hectic schedules back home. Most meals at the villa will be prepared together (group participation classes). We will explore the local shops and markets, choosing the very freshest ingredients to use in our daily meals. In most cases, what we cook will depend on what the market has to offer on any particular day.
When not cooking, we will be taking short trips to explore some of the area’s exquisitely scenic towns. Montalcino is a charming small hill town set amidst some of the best vineyards in Italy. It is the area famed for Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino. From the large Banfi estate to the more modest Il Poggio, we will explore vineyards and have tastings.

We will take day trips to the nearby towns of Pienza and Siena to take in the sights and, or course, eat.
We will also dedicate time exploring those local traditions that produce some of Italy’s best cheeses, wines, and cured meats. We will visit an extraordinary chocolate artisan near Florence, as well as a talented pastry chef in Prato.
